1963 JFK Visits Germany
1963 : President John F. Kennedy expresses solidarity with democratic German citizens in a speech in front of the Berlin Wall that separated Berlin into west Berlin and East Berlin, he declared to the crowd, “Ich bin ein Berliner” or “I am also a citizen of Berlin.”
1948 Germany Soviet Blockade
1948 : In response to the Soviet blockade of land routes into West Berlin, the United States begins a massive airlift of food, water, and medicine to the citizens of West Berlin supplies from British and American planes sustained the over 2 million people in West Berlin for close to 12 months.

1945 United Nations Charter
1945 : Delegates from 50 nations sign the United Nations Charter, establishing the world body as a means of helping to stop another World War happening.
1956 United Nations Charter
1956 : Congress passes the National Interstate and Defense Highways Act for the construction of 41,000 miles of Interstate Highways over a 20-year period, it was the largest public works project in American history to that point, The federal government paid 90% of the construction costs and States paid for 10%.
1959 U.S.A. St. Lawrence Seaway
1959 : The St. Lawrence Seaway has it's official opening when the Royal Yacht Britannia with The Queen representing Canada and US President Dwight D Eisenhower from the United States formally open The St. Lawrence Seaway, creating a navigational channel from the Atlantic Ocean to all the Great Lakes. The seaway, made up of a system of canals, locks, and dredged waterways, extends a distance of nearly 2,500 miles, from the Atlantic Ocean through the Gulf of St. Lawrence to Duluth, Minnesota, on Lake Superior.

1960 : Congress is planning to cut the amount of sugar imported from Cuba and in retaliation Castro has stated Cuba will seize US assets , meanwhile in Cuba campaigns of sabotage against the Castro Regime continue to grow with attacks on the rail system.

1974 U.S.A. First Bar Code Reader
1974 : At a Marsh supermarket in Troy, Ohio, a consumer purchased a package of Wrigley's chewing gum. And for the first time, a laser beam in an NCR checkout terminal with a bar code reader read a UPC bar code symbol on the package and automatically rang up the purchase.
1979 Muhammad Ali Retires
1979 : Muhammad Ali, one of the most famous fighters in history, retired from boxing . During his boxing career, Ali won the world heavyweight title three times over a 15-year span many still believe he was one of the greatest boxers of all time.

1998 U.S.A. Coyote Population Grows
1998 : A study done on the Coyote Population in America says they continue to grow in numbers and more are now mating with dogs and wolves. The coyote has been in North America for 2 million years through the Ice Age, the Stone Age and now the human age and adapts well to the human world. The Coyote can run at up to 40 MPH and when hunting larger animals form packs.

1998 : Microsoft has released its latest version Windows 98 and one of its key new features is the plug in capability of video cameras, games machines and other plug and play peripherals.
2000 First Draft of Human Genome
2000 : At a press conference in London Scientists from the Sanger Centre hand over the gift of the human genome partially funded by the Wellcome Trust to the world with 85% of the code written in DNA accurately sequenced and put in its proper order. The Human Genome Project has the capacity for impact on every human on Earth and society and politicians must decide if the knowledge is used for great good or great evil for mankind and many believe it is modern science's greatest achievement. The Human Genome which is the 2m-long string of DNA contains the instructions for every physical aspect of your body, from the pattern of fine capillaries in your lungs to the unique speckled pattern of your iris. As big business becomes involved concerns over the use and control of the information will raise a number of concerns and ethical questions which society will need to address.
2003 US New Music File Sharing Crackdown
2003 : The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is increasing it's policing and increasing the number of lawsuits on those caught file sharing music and committing copyright violations. It is estimated that over 1 billion songs are file swapped each month.
2007 China Builds Longest Sea Bridge
2007 : China announced it had completed construction on the world's longest sea bridge. The bridge spans twenty-two and a half miles across Hangzhou Bay in the East China Sea, making it the longest sea crossing bridge on the planet. The bridge was set to open in 2008 after the construction of surrounding roads and tolls was completed.
2008 Nepalese Prime Minister Resigns
2008 : Girija Prasad Koirala, the interim prime minister of Nepal, announced that he had resigned, paving the way for former the rebel leader of the Maoist party, Prachanda, to take over as prime minister. Despite his resignation, Koirala would likely stay in the position for some time because, according to the new constitutional rules, he can only tender his resignation to the president who had not been chosen by the assembly yet.
2009 Australia Wallabies Cause Crop Circles
2009 : During a hearing on poppy crop security, the attorney general for Tasmania, Lara Giddings, reported that wallabies had been creating crop circles in poppy fields. She reported findings that wallabies had been eating opium poppies grown legally for medicinal purposes, getting high off of the poppies, and then wandering around the fields and crashing, creating crop circles and causing damage. The reported wallaby incidents seemed to be rare, however, farmers also reported that sheep would often get into the crops and cause the same problems.
2013 United States Abortion Bill Blocked
2013 : Democratic state senator Wendy Davis successfully blocked a bill that would have shut down most of the abortion clinics in the state of Texas and banned abortions in pregnancies over twenty weeks. Davis held a filibuster in which she spoke for over ten hours in an attempt to block the passage of the bill.
2013 US Supreme Court Rules Against Doma
2013 : Justices on the US Supreme Court ruled that the Defense of Marriage Act (Doma) discriminates against same-sex couples. The court also kept in place a lower court's striking down of California's Proposition 8, paving the way for same-sex marriage in states that recognize it.
