Loren Scurlock Rest in Peace

Just received a sad call from Geoffrey Hemenway, that his father Loren Earl Scurlock passed this morning from complications of dementia.

Mr. Scurlock was married to Patricia Scurlock for forty-four years, and dated for ten years prior to finally settling down and getting married. Loren is survived by his loving wife Patricia, four children, and five grand children.

He always worked at the Los Angeles Times from February 24, 1962 to sometime in 1994, from one of the many buyouts the company offered. His son Geoffrey also worked with us in the pressroom for many years.

Loren was always a pleasure to work with, and could be found nearby the printing press pretending to be reading the newspaper, he was asleep. Before entering the pressroom the tours of many people would pass the statues that are on display outside the printing presses, with one statue holding a newspaper. One day a large group of older women walked by our running press, and many began taking pictures of Loren as he held up his newspaper, they thought he was also a statue. With all the ado, Loren awoke, which caused the women to scream out loud, as they didn't expect any movement from a statue.

Loren was born on September 12, 1935, in Pleasant Hill, Illinois.

Services for Loren will be private at a military cemetery
