WANTED: Experienced Machinst

 The Bay Area News Group is currently seeking an experienced Machinst to work within a team based, self-managing environment in our Concord facility to provide well maintained equipment in order to produce high quality product on time and within budget restraints.

 

Essential Functions 

In this role you will: 

  • Monitor and trouble shoot newspaper production equipment during operation to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement; and repair faulty equipment or systems.

  • Work with chemicals to clean and prepare machinery for repairs and machining.

  • Perform basic repairs and maintenance offline, and emergency repairs under deadline pressure.

  • Clean up tasks on press, warehouse, auxiliary equipment as necessary, including daily, weekly and monthly preventative maintenance tasks.

  • Electronic or mechanical devices including tools, hardware, software and other equipment used in the performance of the essential functions of this position include the following:

    • Unit Control Panels

    • Advanced Press Control Systems

    • Calibration equipment

    • Precision measuring equipment

    • Basic hand tools

    • Variety of machine shop tools

    • PCs and Database Program Entry

    • Forklift/Clamp truck

  • Work night, weekend and holiday shifts as required. Regular and reliable attendance is a necessary element of this job

  • Other duties may be assigned.

 

Competencies & Skills

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis and work within deadlines

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with multiple levels of management and across teams.

  • 5 years of experience as a Maintenance Mechanic or Machinist on production equipment

  • Knowledge of printing and post print support equipment helpful. 

  • Comfortable working with PC’s and computer driven equipment.

  • Ability to work on multiple concerns simultaneously, excellent time management skills.
