The Chicago Tribune is raising the price of its newsstand editions by a third, to $1.
A letter sent to store owners and obtained by the Sun-Times said the increase from 75 cents will take effect Jan. 18. The increase does not apply to the paper's Sunday edition.

The Chicago Sun-Times, meanwhile, is keeping its newsstand price at 75 cents, said a spokeswoman for the paper.
The Tribune last raised its cover price to 75 cents from 50 cents with the start of 2008.
The paper's owner, Tribune Co., is in bankruptcy because of real estate investor Sam Zell's ill-timed reliance on debt to finance an
$8.2 billion buyout in late 2007.
A spokeswoman for the Chicago Tribune was not immediately available for comment.
