No Pressroom Buy-Outs Update
By Ronnie Pineda
"I telephoned GCC/IBT International President George Tedeschi this morning (Fri) to seek his assistance in informing Tribune of pressroom members who expressed an interest in participating in the current buy-outs, and to also inquire as to the possibility of allowing our brothers and/or sisters to apply for consideration in the current buy-outs.
President Tedeschi agreed to make inquiries and inform me of his findings."

“President George Tedeschi on behalf of The Los Angeles Times Pressroom Employees contacted his sources within Tribune as to the eligibility of our members to participate in the Buy-Outs that are currently being offered to Los Angeles Times Employees.”
Who are Mr. Tedeschi’s "sources"?????
Why the anonymity?
No one is hiding anything if that's what is being insinuated by asking for President Tedeschi's contacts. He didn't disclose that information, and I didn't ask because it's irrelevant.
The issue of Buy-Outs have been addressed and any questions regarding them should be made to management, because it is their decision, and has nothing to do with the union.
What's the big deal.... Who did he talk to at Tribune? Pretty easy question to answer. It may be "irrelevant" to you but maybe not others.
What's the big deal, my point exactly. Like I said, President Tedeschi did not disclose who he spoke with and I didn't ask.
We got an answer on the buy-outs, and that's all that was being sought. I am not going to question him about who he spoke with or the credibility of his source.
He would not have allowed me to post the information he obtained if it weren't from someone in a position to know the answer to our question.
Do you remember this “source” below……

Employee Voluntary Separation Program (EVSP)
We are offering a voluntary program where employees can choose to leave…………..
“For hourly employees in the pressroom unit, all aspects of the program are subject to collective bargaining, and requests to participate will not be considered until addressed by the bargaining process.”
So, Mr. Tedeschi must not have talked to anyone at the Los Angeles Times, at least not the publisher.
Remember "trust" is something you earn and it doesn't happen by using anonymous "sources" and by not answering simple questions!
You can be sure when George Tedeschi says hes talking to the right people he means it. He was my local president over 20 years. I have seen what he can accomplish. Believe me when I tell you he wont be talking to any mid level managers who think they are in the know. He talks to people you only read about.
Good.... Then once again I ask, who did he talk to at Tribune? Pretty easy question to answer. Why would he not answer it?
