The government of Quebec
is providing financial help to the province’s print media, The Canadian Press reports.
A refundable
tax credit amounting to 35 percent of staff salaries over five years will be
available to media firms to allow the companies to come up with new revenue
streams, according to The Canadian Press.
The move is
retroactive to Jan. 1 and applies to newsroom staff making up to $75,000
($57,500 U.S. )
a year. The help amounts to almost $50 million ($38 million U.S. ) annually
by 2023-2024, The Canadian Press reported.
The Quebec government has
also responded to requests of of media owners to get rid of the recycling tax
paid to cities for curbside recycling, The Canadian Press reported.
