• Star Tribune Media, Minnesota’s largest media company, said May 21 that it has added its 100,000th digital subscriber, a “milestone that solidifies Star Tribune’s place among an elite handful of major metro newspapers with a growing and profitable digital readership.” Star Tribune was among the first regional news organizations to begin charging for digital access. Since that 2011 implementation, the number of Star Tribune digital subscribers has grown steadily by double-digit percentages, the paper says.
• The Atlantic announced last week that it’s cutting 68 staffers, which is around 17% of total staff, Variety reported.
• Stuff CEO Sinead Boucher has purchased Stuff from Australian owners Nine Entertainment for one dollar. Stuff is New Zealand’s biggest news publisher.
• The Post and Courier of Charleston is moving into other parts of South Carolina. It’s launching a digital news site in Greenville, which is quite a distance from Charleston.
