Tan Nguyen, Meet Harry Truman

Unbridled ambition: The 47th district plays political seesaw. Democratic Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez used to be a Republican until she decided to run for her seat against the old tankhorse Bob Dornan. Now the 47th has Republican candidate Tan Nguyen who used to be a Democrat, before he was beaten by Sanchez in the Democratic primary two years ago. Confused? Just remember this: these two have been sandbox competitors before. But now there's the letter. Even though there's no chance he'll win, Tan Nguyen should take responsibility for the faulty logic and the wrongness behind it.

Kanani , The last time I checked the LA Times refers to Illegeal Aliens as immigrants.. I think everybody is missing the point here and that is if you are not a US citizen you can not vote. Un documented , green card , temporary visa , these people are not elgible to vote . Our voting system in this country is an honor system , shamefully it is not even a requirement to show identification to vote in California anymore, I would be concerned too. I have lived in OC since I was 5 yrs. old. I have seen many changes ... I grew up in Santa Ana and everybody spoke english at the schools , everybody brought there lunch . The graduation rate was very high, this is no longer the case. The schools in this part of the county are failing because of the flood of illegal aliens, hospitals are closing , jails are overcrowded , freeways are clogged , and the countless other costs that I dont have time to list. What about all of the money that is Western Unioned out of the USA ? Oh dont get me going on the benefits they provide?? Have you been to other states lately ? I see plenty of english speaking americans working at entry level jobs. ................................

Also I take offense to your statement ... " Everyone believes in the hoary stereotype of the white American to say something stupid to a person of color.

HUH ???????

Oh ya , Why did you leave out the racists remarks from Whoopy Goldberg , Oprah Winfrey , Spike Lee , Jesse Jackson , Louis Farrakhan, Ray Nagin , Al Sharpton , etc, etc.

Mr OC,
You're missing the point.

People are quick to believe that it's the white man who'll make the first racist remark. Like it or not, it's the perception. However, it's not the truth and it's time people start pointing this out.

Case in point: Tan Nguyen's actions were based on a stereotype that anyone with a spanish surname would try to vote illegally. But get real. There are illegals from every country. From those who cross over to those who overstay their visas. I find his actions as offensive as any other drivel spewed out by the persons you mention.

And I'm well aware of every single condition of our lives that you mention.
